I had a pleasant surprise! I was received an email from SleekLens asking me to do a product review. If you haven't heard of them before, they are a company that creates a lot of presets, brushes, and more for Photoshop and Lightroom.
I've been using presets with Lightroom for a very long time and I was very interested in this opportunity. Firstly to see how useful the presets would be in my personal workflow; secondly to see how their presets would differ to mine.
Not going to lie...I was pretty freaked out after installing the presets haha There were about 127 presets, and when I first opened up Lightroom after the installation I was greeted with a MASSIVE list of presets.
And this list goes on....!
After the initial shock, I started to play around with the different presets. Overall, I think SleekLens has done a great job trying to encapsulate all the possible scenarios a photo might be captured in, and then creating a preset to have a one click solution (or as little clicks as possible) to improve/fix the resulting image.
I really like the thought process behind the workflow. The way I used the SleekLens Presets, is firstly I would choose one of the "Forever Thine | 0-All In One" presets, there were about 10 to choose from. Once I find one that I like the look I would scroll through the available presets to find the next section of preset which would be labeled "Forever Thine | 1-Base", and then progressively until you get to the picture you want.
There are so many to choose from! One of the things I have always been very hesitant about having too many presets is that it'll make me confused. After using the presets a number of times I started noticing that I tended towards 1 or 2 particular All In Ones and the otehr ones available were just not my style. My favourite All In One preset would be the "I Do Darling" preset which created a nice clean image. At times there would be a little too much clarity but this is easy to fix.
After testing this product for a while, here are my suggestions:
The Forever Thine, SleekLens presets for Wedding Photography is a great product. It is perfect for new photographers and also for photographers who are not interested in photo editing. And don't forget that just because it is marketed towards wedding photography, doesn't mean you can't use it for other kinds of photos as well!
Thanks SleekLens for the opportunity to review your product! To find out more information go to: https://sleeklens.com/product/wedding-lightroom-presets/.
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to everyone!
